The Finca

Four old plots, one restored estate

Cuatre Finques means four farms. They were separate terraces of olives and almonds above Xaló before becoming a single private property with nine en-suite rooms and a pool facing Bernia.

The story

A working valley property, brought back slowly

The land here was farmed long before anyone thought of guests: four neighbouring plots of olives, almonds and vines, each with its own dry-stone terracing. Bringing them together took time, local stone and a lot of respect for what was already standing.

What exists now is one private estate above Xaló — old walls and beams kept where they could be, comfort added where it was needed, and nothing that makes the place feel like a hotel.

Dry-stone terraces climb behind the house, planted the way the valley has always been planted — good for a morning walk and very good for shade.

The courtyard and pool

Twenty metres of water, loungers under thatch and the stone arches that hold the whole property together.

Terraces for eating

Terraces for eating

Breakfast in the early sun, lunch in deep shade, dinner facing the mountains as they turn terracotta.

Reading chairs, hammocks and quiet ends of the garden — space to be alone without leaving the finca.

The valley

Xaló, the bodegas and the mountains behind

The finca sits 800m above the village, with the Bernia ridge behind and the sea half an hour down the valley. Close enough to walk for bread; far enough that all you hear at night is the wind in the almonds.

Xaló

Xaló

A working Spanish village rather than a resort — bakery, market, tapas bars and the church square at dusk.

Wine country

Moscatel and Giró bodegas within minutes, most of them small, family-run and happy to pour.

Fiestas

Fiestas

The valley celebrates all summer — brass bands, late dinners and fireworks over the mountains.

How we look after it

Restored, not rebuilt

The finca is worked on continuously and quietly — old materials repaired, planting kept local, and the property never let to more than one group at a time.

  • Restored using local stone, timber and lime rather than replaced
  • Thick walls and deep shade instead of constant air conditioning
  • Terraces replanted with olive, almond and citrus
  • Water-wise planting and drip irrigation across the grounds
  • Produce, wine and bread sourced in the valley wherever possible
  • Only one group on the property at a time, all year
Wine on the terrace with the Xaló Valley beyond
“It doesn't feel like a venue. It feels like someone's much better-kept family house, handed over for the week.”
